Who was Franklin Pierce and why do people remember him?

Franklin Pierce was the 14th president of the United States, serving in the 1850s right before the country really started heating up over slavery. People remember him as a Northern Democrat who tried to keep the country together, but his decisions often backfired politically. He came from New Hampshire and had a long career in Congress and the Senate before becoming president. Pierce’s presidency is sometimes called “forgettable,” but historians point out he faced some incredibly tough times. He wanted to be a unifying figure, but the compromises he supported ended up angering both sides. Even though he’s not as famous as some other presidents, his term had big consequences for the nation. His story is a mix of ambition, tragedy, and political struggle.
