Who was Zachary Taylor and why is he remembered?

Zachary Taylor was the 12th president of the United States and a longtime military hero before ever stepping into politics. People remember him because he jumped straight from the battlefield to the White House with almost no political background. He was known as a tough, no-frills general who spent decades on the frontier. Taylor was one of those presidents who didn’t talk much but made big impressions just by being himself. His presidency was short, but he still left a mark during the tense years leading up to the Civil War. Even today he’s seen as a straight-shooter type who wasn’t interested in playing political games. That’s a big part of why he stands out.
