Why did John Tyler clash so much with the Whig Party?

Even though Tyler ran as a Whig, he didn’t share some of the party’s biggest goals, especially their plans for a new national bank. Once he became president, he vetoed several Whig bills, which infuriated party leaders. Eventually, they kicked him out of the party entirely while he was still in office, which is something that almost never happens. Tyler believed strongly in states’ rights and didn’t want the federal government getting too powerful. His independence made him look principled to some people but unreliable to others. The constant fighting made his presidency pretty chaotic at times. Still, he stood by what he believed, even when it cost him political support.
