Adams spoke multiple languages, started doing diplomacy as a teenager, and kept up a lifelong habit of reading and writing. His diary alone contains more than a massive amount of entries covering politics, travel, and personal thoughts. He studied law, philosophy, and science for fun. Adams understood foreign policy at a level few others did. Even his rivals admitted he was brilliant. His intelligence shaped every part of his career. He just wasn’t always great at political charm.
