Chad has a population of around 19 million people, with a very young median age and a high fertility rate. The society is ethnically diverse, with a mix of African and Arab groups, including Sara, Kanembu, Arab, Gorane, and many others. French and Arabic are official languages, but more than 120 languages and dialects are spoken throughout the country. The population practices a range of religions, including Islam and Christianity, alongside traditional beliefs. Many Chadians live in rural areas and rely on agriculture and pastoralism for their livelihoods. Cultural expressions include traditional music, dance, crafts, and clothing that reflect the country’s diversity. Despite economic challenges, community and family ties remain central to life in Chad.
