The official language of Guinea is French. French is used in government, schools, and official media. Many people also speak local languages at home and in daily life. The most common local languages include Fulani, Malinke, and Susu. These languages reflect the country’s main ethnic groups. English is not widely spoken, especially outside major cities. Visitors usually find basic French helpful when traveling in Guinea.
