Guinea is located in West Africa along the Atlantic Ocean. It borders Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The country is often called Guinea-Conakry to avoid confusion with nearby countries with similar names. Its coastline lies on the Atlantic, while inland areas are mostly hilly and mountainous. Guinea is home to the Fouta Djallon highlands, which are an important water source for the region. The capital city, Conakry, sits on a narrow peninsula by the sea. Guinea’s location makes it a mix of coastal, forest, and savanna landscapes.
