New York City Hall is the seat of NYC’s government and one of the most historic government buildings in the United States. It was built between 1803 and 1812 and is still used for its original purpose today, making it the oldest city hall in the country with continuous use. The building houses the office of the Mayor of New York City and the chambers of the City Council, where important city decisions are made. Architecturally, it’s a mix of French Renaissance and Georgian styles, which makes it a standout piece of history right in downtown Manhattan. City Hall is also a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places with both its exterior and interior protected. The surrounding City Hall Park is a nice public green space filled with statues, paths, and history. A lot of people visit just to see the amazing building and learn about the city’s story.
