Why is Northwest Stadium called so?

The stadium is called Northwest Stadium because of a naming rights partnership with Northwest Federal Credit Union. The deal was announced in 2024 after FedEx ended its long-time naming agreement earlier than expected. Before the new sponsor was revealed, the venue was briefly known as Commanders Field. Naming rights deals like this are common in the NFL and help teams generate revenue. The partnership also connects the team with a local financial institution that serves the Washington metro area. As part of the deal, the company’s branding appears around the stadium and in team promotions. The name Northwest Stadium is expected to stay in place for several years under the agreement.
