Why is Lambeau Field called the Frozen Tundra?

Lambeau Field earned the nickname “The Frozen Tundra” because of the brutally cold winter games played there. Green Bay winters are extremely cold, and many famous Packers games happened in snow or freezing temperatures. The most legendary example was the 1967 NFL Championship Game, often called the Ice Bowl. That game was played in about −13°F weather, making it one of the coldest games in football history. Despite the freezing conditions, fans still packed the stadium and cheered the entire time. Today the field actually has an underground heating system that helps keep the turf from freezing solid. Even with that system, winter games at Lambeau can still feel incredibly cold.
