The Swamp is known for being one of the loudest environments in college football thanks to its unique stadium design. The field actually sits below ground level, which means the stands rise steeply around it. This bowl-like layout traps sound inside the stadium instead of letting it escape. When more than 88,000 fans start cheering at once, the noise can reach extremely high levels. Measurements on the field have recorded crowd noise around 115 decibels during big games. That level of sound can make it really hard for opposing teams to communicate plays. Combined with Florida’s heat and humidity, visiting teams often feel overwhelmed by the environment. Because of that, The Swamp has built a reputation as one of the toughest places to play in college football.
