What wildlife lives around the Great Salt Lake?

The Great Salt Lake area is a wildlife hotspot, especially for birds, with millions of migratory birds using it as a stopover on major flyways. You can spot species like pelicans, avocets, sandpipers, and many more depending on the season. Brine shrimp thrive in the salty water, and those little shrimp attract tons of birds looking for a food source. Other critters like brine flies are super common near the flats, which sounds weird but plays a big role in the food web. The surrounding wetlands help support amphibians, ducks, and waterfowl, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Wildlife management areas around the lake often have observation points for visitors to see animals up close. It’s one of the reasons the lake is so important ecologically, despite how salty it is.
