Photography is allowed in many areas of The Met for personal use, which makes it very popular with tourists and social media visitors. Guests can usually take pictures of artwork and exhibits without using flash. Flash photography, tripods, selfie sticks, and professional commercial equipment are generally prohibited in most galleries. Some temporary exhibitions may have special rules that limit photography completely. Many visitors enjoy taking photos near the Temple of Dendur, the grand staircase, and famous paintings throughout the museum. Being respectful of other guests and not blocking exhibits is strongly encouraged by museum staff. Checking signs inside each gallery helps visitors know where photography is allowed.
