Many experienced visitors recommend going to The Met earlier in the morning on weekdays for a calmer experience. Weekends, holidays, and rainy days can become extremely crowded, especially during tourist season. Visiting right after opening time often means shorter security lines and quieter galleries. Late afternoons can sometimes be less crowded as well because many tourists leave before closing time. Special exhibitions and school breaks may increase visitor numbers throughout the museum. Some people prefer visiting during colder months because New York tourism is slightly less busy than summer. Planning your visit ahead of time usually helps make the experience much more relaxed and enjoyable.
