The Unisphere was created for the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair. Organizers wanted a symbol that reflected the fair's theme of peace through understanding and technology. The globe was designed to celebrate humanity's growing connections across continents. It also highlighted advances in communication, travel, and space exploration during the 1960s. The monument was funded by the United States Steel Corporation. Its futuristic appearance matched the optimistic spirit of the era. Decades later, it still represents the idea of a connected world.
