The is the federal law-making body in Canada. It is made up of three parts: the Monarch (represented by the Governor General), the House of Commons, and the Senate. Most of the real political power sits in the elected House of Commons. Members of Parliament debate laws, vote on bills, and represent people from across the country. The Senate reviews legislation more carefully and can suggest changes. The system is based on the British parliamentary model but adapted for Canada. In simple terms, it’s where national laws get made and approved.
