Becharof Lake is located on the Alaska Peninsula in southwestern Alaska, about 30 miles east of the community of Egegik. It sits within the Becharof National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest protected wildlife areas in the United States. The lake covers roughly 450 square miles, making it the second-largest lake entirely within Alaska. The surrounding landscape includes mountains, wetlands, tundra, and countless streams. Because the area is so remote, there are no roads leading directly to the lake. Most visitors arrive by floatplane or small aircraft from nearby communities. Its untouched wilderness makes it a favorite destination for nature lovers and outdoor adventurers.
