Benzie County is located on the coast of Lake Michigan in central Michigan. The county seat of Benzie County is Beulah. The overall area of the county is about 860 square miles. Formed in 1863 from part of Leelenau County, today Benzie County counts over 18 thousand inhabitants. The county is named after Betsie River: the river of sawbill ducks.
