From 2017 to 2022, Big Ben underwent a major restoration project. The work included cleaning and repairing the stonework, repainting the clock faces, and updating the internal mechanisms. During this time, the bell was mostly silent, only ringing for special events like New Year's Eve and Remembrance Day.
