What is Big Ben exactly?

Big Ben is actually the nickname for the Great Bell inside the Elizabeth Tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. While many people use "Big Ben" to refer to the clock tower itself, the name originally applied only to the bell. The tower was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
