Why is it called Big Ben?

There are a couple of theories. One popular story is that the bell was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, the Commissioner of Works during its installation. Another theory says it was named after heavyweight boxing champion Benjamin Caunt. Either way, the nickname stuck.
