Petra was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom around the 4th century BC. It's famous for its rock-cut architecture, especially the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh). Petra was unknown to the Western world until 1812. It was an important stop on ancient trade routes connecting Arabia, Egypt, and the Mediterranean. The site includes tombs, temples, and an ancient theater carved into stone. Petra is also called the “Rose City” due to the color of the sandstone. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
