The Dead Sea is extremely salty due to high evaporation rates and low freshwater inflow. The Jordan River is the main source of water, but much of it evaporates in the hot desert climate. Minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium remain in the water, creating its unique composition. This high salinity prevents most plants and animals from surviving in its waters. Salt crystals form along the shores, creating natural salt formations. The unique environment has made the Dead Sea a place for both natural wonder and health treatments.
