Yes, English is the main language, but you’ll also hear Te Reo Māori, the language of the indigenous Māori people. Some place names and everyday words come straight from Māori, like “Kia ora” (hello/thanks) and “whānau” (family). Locals have a unique accent and slang that might throw you at first. Words like “chilly bin” (cooler) and “jandals” (flip-flops) pop up a lot. But overall, communication is super easy for English speakers.
