Armed with guesswork? Might think Romanian is Slavic, but it’s actually a Latin-based language—like Spanish or Italian. That’s kind of wild since the country is surrounded by Slavic-speaking nations. Tourists say learning a few phrases like “Bună” (hello) or “Mulțumesc” (thanks) goes a long way. In big towns like Bucharest or Brașov, English helps a lot. But in rural areas, it’s worth knowing at least some basics.
