It’s the gilded figure standing in Jackson Park, Chicago — a memorial rooted in the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Folks often call it “The Republic,” and it was originally a huge centerpiece at the fair before a later, smaller bronze version was installed as a permanent memorial. People love it because it’s one of those iconic Chicago fair relics you can actually walk up to today. If you’re into big-fair history or just want a scenic park photo, this is a neat stop. It’s pretty unmistakable — shiny, high on a granite pedestal, and facing the old Court of Honor site.
