Each island has its own personality, so your choice depends on what you want. Sal and Boa Vista are the go-to spots for beaches, resorts, and all-inclusive relaxation — super popular with European tourists. Santiago is the largest island and feels the most local, with history, markets, and city life in Praia. São Vicente has Mindelo, the cultural heart with live music and nightlife that lasts till morning. Santo Antão is a paradise for hikers, with green mountains and dramatic coastal trails. If you’re into something quieter, Fogo’s active volcano and coffee plantations make it unique. Most travelers mix two or three islands if they have the time, since internal flights are short but not always daily.
