How easy is it to get around Colombia — flights, buses, and trains?

Getting around Colombia is pretty straightforward: domestic flights are common and affordable, which helps because distances between regions are large and roads can be slow. Long-distance buses connect most towns and are a budget-friendly option; they range from basic to super-comfy executive coaches. There’s no national passenger rail network like in Europe, so don’t expect scenic train travel across the country. Within cities, metros, cable cars, buses, and ride-hailing apps make urban travel fairly easy, though rush hour can be brutal. Driving yourself gives flexibility but be ready for mountain roads and unfamiliar traffic rules in some areas. For many travelers, a mix of short flights and local buses or shared shuttles is the most efficient plan. Always check schedules in advance during holidays when transport fills up fast.
