Albania’s official currency is the Albanian lek, shown as ALL. It’s been in use since the early 20th century and has a long story tied to the country’s modern identity. Locals use leks for everything, from coffee at a café to bus rides around Tirana. Foreign currencies like euros are sometimes accepted in tourist spots, but the lek is what you’ll actually need day to day. You’ll see banknotes with national heroes and historic places on them. ATMs are easy to find, especially in cities, and cards are getting more common. The lek has stayed fairly stable as Albania’s economy keeps growing.
