The official language in Guinea-Bissau is Portuguese. It’s used in government, schools, and official documents, but most people speak Guinea-Bissau Creole (Crioulo) in daily life. This Creole is based on Portuguese and West African languages, making it colorful and expressive. Many locals are bilingual, switching easily between Portuguese and Creole. In rural areas, you might also hear local tongues like Balanta or Fula. English and French are gaining popularity among young people. The mix of languages shows the country’s lively culture and colonial history.
