The official languages in Haiti are Haitian Creole and French. Haitian Creole is spoken by nearly everyone and is the language of daily life. French is used in formal settings, education, and government. The two languages share many words but sound quite different. Most Haitians are bilingual and switch between them depending on context. English and Spanish are also understood in tourist areas. The blend of languages mirrors Haiti’s history and unique Caribbean identity.
