The official language in Iran is Persian, also called Farsi. It’s spoken by the majority of Iranians and used in government, education, and media. Besides Persian, there are regional languages like Kurdish, Azerbaijani, and Arabic in different parts of the country. Many educated Iranians also understand English, especially in urban areas. The Persian script is beautiful and written from right to left. Learning a few Farsi phrases can make interactions with locals warmer. The language reflects Iran’s long literary tradition and deep cultural history.
