The official language in Italy is Italian. It’s used everywhere—in government, schools, and daily life—and is known for its musical sound and expressiveness. There are also many regional dialects, like Sicilian, Venetian, and Neapolitan, that locals use informally. English is widely spoken in tourist areas and among younger people. Some older generations also speak French or German in northern regions. Italian is a beautiful language often associated with art, food, and fashion. Speaking even a few words of Italian can make your trip feel more authentic.
