The official language in Jamaica is English. However, most people speak Jamaican Patois (or Patwa) in everyday conversation. Patois is a lively Creole language that blends English with African and Caribbean influences. English is used in schools, government, and media, while Patois brings local color and rhythm to daily speech. Visitors can usually understand the English-based Creole after a little exposure. Both languages reflect Jamaica’s proud history and cultural creativity. The mix gives the island its warm, expressive, and musical vibe.
