The official language in Japan is Japanese. It’s spoken throughout the country and written with three scripts: Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana. English is taught in schools and used in major cities, but fluency levels vary. In tourist areas, signs are often bilingual to help visitors. Some regions also have local dialects that can sound quite different from standard Japanese. The language is known for its politeness levels and subtle expressions. Learning a few Japanese phrases like “Arigato” (thank you) can make a great impression.
