The official language in Liechtenstein is German. The local dialect, known as Alemannic, is used in everyday speech and sounds quite similar to Swiss German. Standard German is used in schools, government, and media. Many residents also speak English, especially in business and tourism. Because of its location, people often understand Swiss and Austrian dialects too. Signs and documents are written in standard German, making communication straightforward. The language reflects Liechtenstein’s close cultural ties with Switzerland and Austria.
