The official language in Mexico is Spanish. It’s spoken by nearly everyone and used in all aspects of life—from education to business and media. In addition, there are around 60 recognized Indigenous languages, such as Nahuatl, Maya, and Mixtec. Many Indigenous communities keep these languages alive alongside Spanish. English is commonly taught in schools and used in tourist areas. Most Mexicans are bilingual or understand some English. The country’s language heritage reflects its deep Indigenous roots and Spanish colonial influence.
