The official language in the Federated States of Micronesia is English. It’s used in government, education, and business across all the islands. However, there are several local languages spoken in different states, such as Chuukese, Pohnpeian, Yapese, and Kosraean. Many people are bilingual, using English for formal situations and their native language at home. English is also common in tourism and communication with visitors. The local languages reflect the islands’ strong cultural traditions and unique identities. This mix of languages helps preserve Micronesia’s rich island heritage.
