The official language in Namibia is English. It’s used in government, schools, and business, even though it’s not the first language for most Namibians. Many people also speak Oshiwambo, Afrikaans, or German, reflecting the country’s colonial past. In rural areas, indigenous languages like Herero and Nama are widely used. Afrikaans is still common in everyday conversation, especially in older generations. Younger people tend to prefer English as it connects them internationally. Namibia’s mix of languages gives it a unique cultural and historical character.
