The official language of Nepal is Nepali. It’s spoken by the majority of the population and used in government, education, and media. In addition to Nepali, there are over 120 local languages, including Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tharu, and Tamang. English is commonly used in business, tourism, and higher education, especially in major cities. Many Nepalese people are bilingual or even trilingual. In remote areas, local languages often dominate daily communication. This wide range of languages reflects Nepal’s rich cultural and ethnic diversity.
