The official language of Nicaragua is Spanish. It’s used in education, government, and most media. In addition to Spanish, there are several regional languages spoken on the Caribbean coast, including English Creole, Miskito, and Sumo. English is also common in tourist areas and among people working in international business. Indigenous languages continue to be spoken in remote communities, keeping cultural traditions alive. Most Nicaraguans are bilingual or understand at least some English. This mix of languages reflects the country’s blend of Latin American and Caribbean influences.
