The official language of Niger is French. It’s used in government, education, and formal communication. However, most people speak local African languages such as Hausa, Zarma, and Tamasheq in daily life. Hausa is especially common and serves as a major trade language across West Africa. English is not widely spoken, though it’s gaining popularity among students. Niger’s multilingual environment connects people from different ethnic groups. The use of French ties the country to its colonial past and helps unify its diverse population.
