The official language of North Macedonia is Macedonian. It’s a South Slavic language written in the Cyrillic alphabet and closely related to Bulgarian and Serbian. Albanian is also an official language in areas with a large Albanian population. Many Macedonians speak Serbian, English, or other regional languages as well. English is becoming more popular, especially among younger people and in tourism. The mix of languages reflects the country’s ethnic diversity. Macedonian serves as a unifying language while respecting the rights of minority groups.
