The official languages of Norway are Norwegian and Sami. Norwegian has two written forms: Bokmål and Nynorsk, both used in schools and government. Sami is spoken by the Indigenous Sami people in the northern regions and has official status there. Most Norwegians also speak excellent English, which is taught from an early age. You might also hear some German, Swedish, or Danish in tourist areas. The strong focus on language education makes communication easy for visitors. Norway’s bilingual and open-minded culture reflects its modern and inclusive society.
