The official language of Panama is Spanish. It’s spoken by nearly everyone and used in government, education, and media. In addition, English is common in business and tourism, especially in Panama City and the Panama Canal Zone. Indigenous languages such as Ngäbere, Kuna, and Emberá are spoken in native communities. Many Panamanians are bilingual, especially along the Caribbean coast. Spanish dominates daily life, but the country’s linguistic diversity is vibrant. The mix of languages reflects Panama’s history and cultural richness.
