The official languages of Rwanda are Kinyarwanda, French, and English. Kinyarwanda is spoken by almost everyone and is the main language of daily life. French and English are used in government, schools, and business. Swahili is also spoken in trade areas and along the border. Many Rwandans are multilingual and switch between languages easily. English has become more common in recent years, especially in urban areas. Rwanda’s language diversity reflects its colonial history and vibrant cultural identity.
