The official language of Saint Lucia is English. French Creole, known locally as Kwéyòl, is also widely spoken and part of the island’s cultural identity. English is used in schools, government, and media, while Creole is spoken at home and in everyday conversation. Many Saint Lucians are bilingual and switch effortlessly between English and Creole. The Creole language reflects African and French influences on the island. Visitors will find English sufficient for communication. The language mix gives Saint Lucia a lively and unique cultural charm.
