The official language of Senegal is French. It’s used in government, schools, and media, but most people also speak Wolof, which serves as a common language across the country. Other local languages include Pulaar, Serer, and Jola, spoken in different regions. Many Senegalese are bilingual or multilingual, switching between French and their native languages. English is less common but taught in some schools. Wolof adds warmth and rhythm to daily conversation. The mix of languages reflects Senegal’s rich cultural and ethnic diversity.
