Singapore has four official languages: English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil. English is the main language used in government, business, and schools. Malay is the national language and is used in ceremonies and the national anthem. Mandarin is spoken by the Chinese community, while Tamil is spoken by the Indian community. Most Singaporeans are bilingual or trilingual, switching between languages easily. English serves as a bridge among the different ethnic groups. The linguistic diversity reflects Singapore’s multicultural society and global outlook.
