The official languages in the Marshall Islands are Marshallese and English. Marshallese is spoken by most of the local population and has two main dialects: Rālik and Ratak. English is used in government, schools, and business. Many islanders are bilingual and switch easily between the two languages. In some communities, you might also hear a bit of Japanese influence due to historical ties. English-speaking visitors will have no trouble communicating. The Marshallese language connects the islanders to their traditions and oceanic roots.
